Anyway, years back when i was learning piano in primary school days(maybe 9 or 10yrs old) , I was learning the piano because i was asked to, by my parents, and not exactly because i had the passion and interest for music. At that time, i wanted to learn the violin because i thought it was quite interesting playing a string instrument and i could complement with my sister(who knows piano as well) when it comes to playing songs together. Then again, i gave up that idea because i thought i was LEFT-handed, and thus would be "handicap" learning a RIGHT-handed instrument.(But we all know now that's bullshit. Everyone can learn and do anything IF we want to) . Therefore with the lack of MOTIVATION and PASSION, i gave it up by the time i was 12 and my music knowledge was left stagnant till now.
Thankfully, my interest for music returned back when i began to explore on guitars while serving National Service. I found it pretty intriguing and aspiring to see musicans showcasing their talents and skills on stage, and was blown away when i saw guitarists doing their "stuffs" on guitar. So many have asked me this question over and over again, " Shaun, why guitar? and why ELECTRIC guitar to be precise?"
Here's 5 reasons why:
1. A Guitar is AFFORDABLE, compared to drums or even keyboard sets.
2. It's pretty EASY TO LEARN to play your 1st basic song, because all u need is to learn the respective chord finger patterns for the song. [ However, learning to play might be easy, but LEARNING TO PLAY WELL and UNDERSTANDING the fundamentals require sheer practices, effort and time.]
3. * Electric Guitar playing gives you FLEXIBILITY and VARIETY to different genres of music.
4. It's PORTABLE and thus easy to be carried anywhere to be played.
5. Guitar Playing IMPRESSES the opposite sex's attention.[ oh you know what i mean, haha! ]
Just take a look at the videos and you'll get what i mean by Flexibilty and VARIETY.
Inspired by the famous Classical Piano Piece of Pachelbel's Canon in D, this Taiwanese guitarist added some Rock remix and feel to the song piece and transformed this song into a rock genre immediately! This guitar workpiece by him eventually got him popular online and even the opportunity to perform in Jacky Wu's variety show!
My all time favourite Guitarist, Joe Satriani, performing one of his latest Instrumental Rock song - Made of Tears. IF you're thinking this is another typical "rock" kinda song, then you're so wrong, listen to it and you're gonna like it! See how emotions and feelings are expressed from the guitar playing.
So, are you guys NOW inspired and thrilled to take up Music as an interest? Haha.
