Significance of 21st Bdays?
Heya,
It's already almost Mid-June and how time flies. In less than 2mths, it's down to my turn for celebrating my 21st bday in Aug(but I'll be celebrating in end of July i suppose ). The thing is, i have not really given a REAL thought of anything about it till now, i.e WHERE will it be held, WHO will be invited, WHAT will we be eating or doing and HOW to go about doing it. 2 mths might seem like a long time away, but that's what i said to myself in Jan this year, (that it's still EARLY to think about it since my bday's in Aug) and here am i stuck at the same old question again.
Since Jan, I've attended quite a number of 21st birthday celebrations, chalets, bbq, clubs, restaurants etc. I've noticed that the one very common thing about such parties is, there is always a HUGE crowd of people involved. Well, it's pretty the norm for one to invite almost all of his/her friends to commemorate the significant event because you hope to share the joy with your circle of friends. Then again, I(as their friend) found it pretty much boring attending it whenever there is a big crowd involved. No doubt that the highlight isnt ME in the 1st place, but i find it pretty pointless to merely be physically there for the sake of it. I mean, if you've noticed, everyone there would be sub divided in their own groups and be in their own world throughout(most of the time feeling bored or killing mosquitoes), and it's also difficult for the bday person to entertain and talk to each and everyone there. So for people who have yet to celebrate your 21st, ask yourself this : Do you want to celebrate your 21st with a large group of friends who come for the sake of coming, or do you prefer just holding it small and yet celebrating it with close friends and make it worthwhile? =p
With regard to this, I hope i can avoid this awkward scenario and therefore only hope my 21st "party" would be celebrated with my family and close circle of friends. To think about it, of all the 21st parties I've attended, i thought Ivan's and -SC- combined 21st was pretty much the most successful and enjoyable party! Although I might say that the timing was kinda a little wrong ( held at sentosa on a weekday evening ) at first, the eventual turnout was just right and perfect! A small gathering with the close friends, making it not difficult to mingle around without feeling left out or bored, the "tekan" sessions and all the lame games we played. Oh boy! It was worthwhile! =)
Now now, as for mine, I hope to find a Nice Chill-Out place with Food and Booze, attended by a small circle of close friends and my family, that's all. Initially, i thought of holding it at ONE-Rochester, making reservations for a few tables at the cosy ambience there, but dad commented that it was inconvenient and far for people to go. So currently, i was thinking along Balcony Bar, but some said it's not very worthwhile. Arghghghgh. Anyone out there has any BRIGHT ideas? Feel Free to let me know if you have yeah.=)
p/s: Friends out there! IF it happens you're not invited for my 21st, it does not mean that you're not LOVED or APPRECIATED, but rather it's difficult for me to invite EVERY1 to the celebration. Thx for understanding! (Anyway you can save on bday present and your time also right. HAHA)
