"Rock for Wayne"'s Gig Pictures
Hey! Hope u guys are still reading and keeping up on my blog entries, although there are occasional posts merely targeted on Guitar Topics which might bore some of you to death. Haha. So once again, I'll update on the "Rock For Wayne" tribute gig which happened just last saturday(23th June).
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the gig the last minute, the reasons being that friends who were initially interested couldnt make it the last min and most of my friends whom i tried asking earlier were not in the least interested with the local music scenes and music genres.*pity. In prior to that, I didnt know the whole gig would last from Noon till Late and so it wouldnt much make sense if i went there ALONE throughout. So yeah, i gave up the 2 FREE tickets which I had won online from the local forums and told those in-charge to give that complimentary tickets to someone who deserves it more. Yesh, I was kinda disappointed when I know I missed sucha meaningful rock gig.
Days after the tribute gig was over, I checked over the local forums(soft.com.sg) and found several posts and links from fellow forum members on the gig's details. Enough said, I've decided to do some posting on the pictures and let them do all the talking!
I'm taking NO credits for the pictures posted below because it doesnt belong to me, but enjoy anyway:

Understanding the Guitar : QnA Tips for Beginners Part1
As i was just surfing online for Guitar-related resources, i found that the internet ITSELF provides SO much information and access to tips on guitar-playing. Some sites offer FREE guitar tips and lessons on their sites, while for the better "claimed" ones, they charge a fixed 1 time fee to teach you the musical instruments online if you sign up for their programs. It's pretty amazing how convenient and useful the internet can be to learning NEW stuff these days. Anyhow, after browsing through various sites, i thought it would be good to provide my own views for the QnAs for you guys out there to read and understand about.
1. "I'm new to guitar playing and so what kind of guitar (i.e Classical, Acoustic, Electric) should i start off with?"
* Well, some guitarists would tell you that it would be better that beginners ought to start out using a Classical Guitar to learn the fundamentals. The reason being because since the Classical Guitar uses nylon strings, it makes it easier for beginners to press the various chords patterns and get the right note strummed. Its wider neck structure also trains the fingers to get used to stretching so that you wouldnt awkward when you have to do more complicated stretched chord patterns in future. In any case, the Classical Guitar is suitable for people who are into the Classic, Folk kind of songs.
* However, the counter argument for starting off with an Acoustic would be that, firstly, because of the fact that you are pressing on steel strings, you are training your fingers to get used to the "pain" and discomfort while pressing on the various keys on the fretboard. In time to come, the skin portion on your finger tips would harden and thus making it easier to learn Barring(Pressing all 6 strings on same fret) for your bar chord playing. Its narrow neck also saves you the trouble of having to stretch when playing Open Chord notes. The 3rd reason would be that since steel strings are used, the sound produced by the guitar would be clearer, brighter and distinct. This makes it more pleasant and closer to guitar playing for modern pop genres. With that, you are also able to train up your ears to "play by ears", i.e to say that the clearer tones allows you to train your ears to listen and distinguish the differences in the different keys and chord patterns. Some guitarists do believe that this is an important aspect of guitar-learning.
* As for Electric guitars, I've always thought this is the most versatile of all. Prior to the fact that it's easier to press the strings compared to Acoustic guitars, it can be used to play a wide range of genres from Blues,Jazz,Pop,Rock,Metal,Instrumental etc... The best thing is, you can also learn all your fundamentals on the electric as well!
* All in all, i never thought the type of guitar really matters SO MUCH when it comes to the intial for guitar learning, the more important thing is having the PASSION and INTEREST to keep you going, to inspire you to be hungry for more guitar knowledge, so choose the right instrument according to what you need and wanna play.
2. " Guitar is not a very difficult instrument, It can be self-taught. "
* To a small extent, this statement is pretty true. I learnt my first guitar song myself, but of course with the help of gettting those chord patterns online and then following it through. The truth is, learning any instrument WELL is NEVER EASY in the first place. Yes, you might argue that all it takes is to memorise all the chord patterns and then learning how to strum and pick them, and that's all it takes, full stop.
* Well, it isnt as easy as you thought. I tried learning it MYSELF for a while initially, but i found it futile because i did not know WHERE and HOW to begin from, so the next thing i did was to consult friends that knew how to play guitar. Well, things got slightly better but i realised that it was difficult consulting friends in the long run because their knowledge were also limited, and they couldnt provide accurate answers and advices. It was then that i decided to get a professional music teacher to teach me right from the basics.
*Although the price was abit steep for some to do the same(i'm paying SGD$40/hr to my guitar mentor), i felt it was totally worth it. The 1st reason being, the teacher knows almost everything about guitar and thus able to explain and teach you stuff which you are confused and unclear about. 2nd reason is, he can customise the lessons according to your needs, like helping to highlight and brush up on certain weaknesses (eg scales, chord progressions, picking) which you might occur, and then progressing on to the genres of music which you are interested in learning.
*Therefore i believe that it's always good to have a mentor/friend to guide and see you through your learning journey, so that you wouldnt be lost along the way. Online resources or even books could be useful to you to learn along the way, but sometimes these information are often too dis-organised and complexed that you would tend to be LOST at where and how to go about doing it.
3. " I do not need to learn the scales and theory aspect in order to play Guitar "* As I have mentioned earlier, it's important to learn the theory aspect of music IF you want to go beyond the basic, because the theory aspect explains to you the WHYs of the songs composed and HOW to go about doing it. Take for example for myself, i never thought learning scales was really important, because it was just a range of notes in a certain pattern to follow, and the notes playing does not make much musical sense to the hears. *However, it was only after my teacher's EMPHASIS on it that i realised it's TRUE importance. Scales not only allows you to understand why certain songs/solos are composed by guitarists in that particular way, it also trains up your finger running on the fretboard, which is really important if you wanna learn to be a lead guitarist. So guys! Go train up on your fundamentals and no notes/keys will put you down in future!4. " How do i maintain my Guitar? Does Rusting of strings matter? "
* Just like any other equipment or instrument, Guitars also need some basic maintenance in order to keep it in tip-top condition. The basic thing would be to clean your exterior parts using a dry smooth cloth, to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating on the corners and surfaces, especially on the humbuckles as it might effect the clarity and tone of the sound generated. If you are feeling rich or because your guitar is your "baby", you could purchase the guitar-cleaning solution which is specially for cleaning the exterior parts and maintaining its looks.
* I used to think that whenever my strings rust, it does not really matter much as long as the strings can be pressed and able to produce the sounds i want. However, this is a very MISCONCEPTION that rusting is okay. The truth is, rusting of strings does affect the output of the sound! IF you are able to notice the difference, rusted strings in actual fact produce a very "dead" tone and becomes less distinct and clear as compared to new strings. Moreover, it would be more difficult to do slidings and bendings on the rusted strings because of its rough surfaces.
* Therefore, one of the ways would be to wipe your guitar strings with a smooth, dry cloth before and after use, so as to prevent sweat and moisture from retaining on the guitar strings after use. Alternatively, you can buy the"oil" solution specially for the guitar strings and then applying it on the strings before and after usage. This would help to keep a layer of oil on your strings and thus preventing your strings from rusting upon contact with moisture. The last method would be to purchase nickel STEEL or coated steel strings, as these strings are designed to last longer, because of its steel coating(anti-rusting) property.5. " Does using a hard/soft pick make a difference to my playing? "
* Definitely! The pick which you use matters more than what you would think! Firstly, there are many different types of picks available in the market, thickness ranging as low as .4mm all the way to 1mm thick! Well, it really depends on the kind of music that you are playing. For more comfortable strumming on a classical/acoustic guitar, you might prefer using thinner picks so that it would be easier to do repeated strumming up and down patterns. The reason for thicker picks is usually for solo patterns, where u wanna do fast yet definite pickings on the guitar. A thicker pick would give a less "flaky" yet sharper and clearer sound on the guitar. Thus, choose a pick which you are comfortable and able to play with on a guitar! * In fact, the size of the pick also matters! U might have noticed that picks do come in different shapes and sizes. The bigger kind of picks are usually accustomed for the Caucasian People( because their body physique is usually bigger than Asians and thus their fingers would be longer and bigger) and so for most Asians, they usually prefer using the slightly smaller sized kind of picks. Avoid getting too big picks as they would become a hindrance more than a help when it comes to solo picking and you would not want having too much excess uncovered spaces on the pick itself.* Finger picking is another alternative to using a pick. It saves you some time and inconvenience because you can position your 5 fingers permanently on each strings without having to move here and there while changing string positions during the song. However, the down side of finger picking is that the sound produced by the guitar would never be as clear and sharp as compared to using a pick.6. " Do i need a Tuner or Metronome for guitar practice? "* Well, unless you're good enough to be able to tune the guitar strings by ear, a tuner is more or less a necessity to most guitarists! Develop the habit of tuning your guitar strings everytime you wanna use the guitar, so that this ensures you are playing the correct sounds and not sounds that are out-of-tuned. * There are many types of Tuners available in the market. The most basic being the tuning fork, which i think is a good tool for training to "tune by ears". However, this might be time-consuming and not 100% accurate (provided you have been using it for long time until you're seasoned with it). The inventions of Chromatic Tuners have brought much convenience as it is able to detect the sound waves and tell you immediately how close/far are you away from the actual Notes quickly. However, by doing so, it would be difficult for you to learn the "tune by ears" method because you become too dependent on the gadget.* Therefore, what I would usually do is; I would first use the tuner system( works like a tuning fork kind where they play the actual note and i have to listen and tune my guitar strings as close as to the sound) in my computer for training up my "tune by ear" method, and then i would use the chromatic tuner to re-confirm if the "tuned" strings are accurate and correct. In this way, though the process is time consuming, but i'll be able to train up my ears!* As for the metronome, which is basically a device to provide you the beats and tempo patterns, is useful if you realise you always have a poor sense of rhythm when playing songs. The metronome would help to keep you in track in the correct tempo and time based on the adjustments made. It's therefore not a MUST have equipment, but useful for practice!* Wow, are you now worried about spending more money on a Tuner and Metronome? Fret not! The internet provides you with FREE resources for download. Enjoy these for FREE.= Free Guitar Tuner = = Free Metronome =
7. " Some web sites claim that IF i sign up for their Guitar-learning programs NOW, I'll be able to learn the guitar in XXX mins/hrs or even in 1 week! Is that for real? "
* Be cautious of such web sites! Self-proclaiming sites that provide you a "Fast-and- Easy" solution to learning guitar is not always as ACCURATE as you might think it would be. Don't get me wrong, Im not saying that ALL such similar sites are scams or are bull-shitting, but rather, my point is that there is no short cut to learning of guitars. It is only through PASSION and SHEER HARD PRACTICE that you are able to learn and play the instrument WELL. You might have the best guitar resources or even a teacher to guide you, but you lack the drive and disipline to practice, what good use would that be?
* Therefore, my conclusion would be that it's pretty safe and okay to sign up for online learning programs, but do check for the person's credibility, the lessons and guitar resources which he/she has to offer, as well as you yourself having the DETERMINATION and DISIPLINE to follow strictly to what the teacher has got to teach and ask you to do. Remember, there is no Easy way out to learning MUSIC , or even anything else.
Have fun exploring and I will provide more tips and insights the next time round again. Till then! =)

The Wonders of Music - Electric Guitar Playing
Have you guys ever wondered how music came about? I mean to say who was the ONE who came up wif the theory for music that eventually led to the era of MUSIC playing. In Piano Context, we always talk about the famous Composers like Beethoven, Mozart etc who were the originators of composing classical piano pieces of their own styles, but question is, were they the ones to discover the fundamental music theories? Take a look at the picture below, it shows you the keys and notes in Music theory context, and that's basically the notes which bring you the different genres of music! ( C D E F G A B, with the black keys being the sharps/flats of the notes) Isnt it amazing?

Anyway, years back when i was learning piano in primary school days(maybe 9 or 10yrs old) , I was learning the piano because i was asked to, by my parents, and not exactly because i had the passion and interest for music. At that time, i wanted to learn the violin because i thought it was quite interesting playing a string instrument and i could complement with my sister(who knows piano as well) when it comes to playing songs together. Then again, i gave up that idea because i thought i was LEFT-handed, and thus would be "handicap" learning a RIGHT-handed instrument.(But we all know now that's bullshit. Everyone can learn and do anything IF we want to) . Therefore with the lack of MOTIVATION and PASSION, i gave it up by the time i was 12 and my music knowledge was left stagnant till now.
Thankfully, my interest for music returned back when i began to explore on guitars while serving National Service. I found it pretty intriguing and aspiring to see musicans showcasing their talents and skills on stage, and was blown away when i saw guitarists doing their "stuffs" on guitar. So many have asked me this question over and over again, " Shaun, why guitar? and why ELECTRIC guitar to be precise?"
Here's 5 reasons why:
1. A Guitar is AFFORDABLE, compared to drums or even keyboard sets.
2. It's pretty EASY TO LEARN to play your 1st basic song, because all u need is to learn the respective chord finger patterns for the song. [ However, learning to play might be easy, but LEARNING TO PLAY WELL and UNDERSTANDING the fundamentals require sheer practices, effort and time.]
3. * Electric Guitar playing gives you FLEXIBILITY and VARIETY to different genres of music.
4. It's PORTABLE and thus easy to be carried anywhere to be played.
5. Guitar Playing IMPRESSES the opposite sex's attention.[ oh you know what i mean, haha! ]
Just take a look at the videos and you'll get what i mean by Flexibilty and VARIETY.
Inspired by the famous Classical Piano Piece of Pachelbel's Canon in D, this Taiwanese guitarist added some Rock remix and feel to the song piece and transformed this song into a rock genre immediately! This guitar workpiece by him eventually got him popular online and even the opportunity to perform in Jacky Wu's variety show!
One of my favourite Power Metal song by a band named Dragonforce. These guys are inspired by music relating to video-gaming, fantasy stories etc. Listen to their guitar solo part of the song and you're be left wondering how the hell they can "run"(play) so quickly on the guitar fretboard! Yupz, these are the guys who give you the song backgrounds for your action video games man...
Jimmy Hendrix - One of the reknown guitar legends in history, playing a Blues song which he had composed back then.
My all time favourite Guitarist, Joe Satriani, performing one of his latest Instrumental Rock song - Made of Tears. IF you're thinking this is another typical "rock" kinda song, then you're so wrong, listen to it and you're gonna like it! See how emotions and feelings are expressed from the guitar playing.
So, are you guys NOW inspired and thrilled to take up Music as an interest? Haha.

Supporting Local Talents
Talking about the Local Music Scene in Singapore, I'm kinda glad to see that in recent years, more and more local bands are getting much recognition in Singapore, as compared to last time, when everyone would say that local bands wouldnt make it and they're wasting their time pursuing music locally.(Although i must admit that Im pretty much aint open to local bands in the past as well.)
Well, people's perception do mind, and one of my favourite bands NOW happen to be local band, Electrico! ( No, i'm NOT supporting them just because Amanda Ling's HOT. lol). Rather, they're a bunch of talented local musicans who DARE to be different and pursue their music interests! Anyway, in case you're wondering who they are:

L-R: Desmond(Bass), William(Drums), David(Vocals), Amanda(Keyboards), Daniel(Guitar)
Well apart from this band now, I've yet to really explore MORE about other local bands out there and their music influences, and I will, the next time.
Anyway, I'm deviating away from what I have intended to blog about here, and that is the upcoming "Rock for Wayne" gig this Saturday:

In memory of Wayne Seah, local bands are rounding up to organise a live gig to perform local songs as well as the song which is in tribute for him. Proceeds( If i'm not wrong ) is going over to Wayne's family and in support for local music scene. Check out the picture above for details. As for myself, I doubt I'll be going because no one i know is actually going for it! Sigh. So I guess I'll give the gig a miss this time.
By the way, as i was surfing through the myspace sites, i came across the band Astroninja (All stars), a band consisting of different band members coming together to piece the Tribute song together.

I thought that one of their songs, "Thunder- A tribute", written by Levan Wee and last produced by Wayne Seah, sounds really nice and cool!
Check out the meaningful lyrics of the song:
ASTRONINJA ALL-STARS -- Thunder (A Tribute to Wayne Thunder)

His Guitz Influences
2 Days of MC after suffering from a Nasal Infection, partly caused by my medical history of synax, so that explains why i've been unable to recover fully from a "common flu" which i thought it was few weeks back. Anyhow, staying at home for 2 good days has given me more time to do what i wanna do, instead of just wasting my time on admin work back at office.
While surfing through the web these days, i came across this significant offer back at Swee Lee Music Shop:

Notice that they wrote "Limited Period Only" on their website, but if i didnt remember wrongly, this "Limited Period" stretched for almost more than a month already( or they could have forgotten to update their site when it's already over.
Anyhow, this isnt the main issue here. THE point is; This is sucha Gooooood Buy!!! Gosh, i was so tempted to rush down to SweeLee to make the purchase, but I've consulted Justin during lesson time the weeks before, and he was advising me to be more patient and concentrate on improving my techniques before settling on a new guitar. Then again, this offer is too good a deal to miss. Sigh. SGD$699.... The price though expensive at first look, but too enticing to be ignored. Guess i'll be more patient and not make hasty decisions.
Talking about guitars, I guess the types of guitars which i wanna get has to do with my music influences at that time. Take for example the first time when i bought my 1st Electric SG guitar, which was partly influenced when i saw Chino Moreno ( Deftones ) peforming his live gig using the Epiphone SG Guitar.

I thought the SG(devil horns shape-like) design was pretty unique and "naughty" in some sense, unlike the usual Les Paul or Strats designs which other guitarists uses, and of course, for the very fact that SG guitar does have a more "rock" tone to it. However, as this sleek and unique cherry red coloured design was not available around then, i settled for the BLACK Gothic SG instead. Aw well.

* Epiphone Elitist '61 SG guitar *
And then as I embarked on this guitar-learning journey ahead, listening to more different genres of songs and rock bands, my likings for a guitar changed at the same time. When i first got to know and hear about Led Zeppelin, the all-time favourite Classic Rock band in the 70s, i was pretty much intrigued and inspired by their guitarist, Jimmy Page. I then began to generate interest in classic old school rock solos and stuff, and even the Les Paul designed guitar which Jimmy Page was using.

* Epiphone Les Paul Ultra *
The next thing was, I began to explore instrumental/progressive rock, and then i got to know more Established guitarists like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci etc, and I've noticed that these guitarists are all using the IBANEZ guitars! One of my favourite guitarists, Joe Satriani, is using his own custom Ibanez JS-1000 for his gigs.

Joe Satriani - Super Colossal (Live at The Grove, Anaheim 2006 )
Oh boy, it was only then that I realised i ought to buy an Ibanez guitar the next round, not only for the fact that it's used by famous guitarists, but rather because of its sleek designs on its neck and frets, which allow easier playing for solos and of course, having the whammy bar which allows you to make those "screeching" effect to your notes. Awesome! =)
So much talks about the different guitar types, I think i ought to save up more and improve on my guitar techniques before talking any further. Working hard towards IBANEZ EDR470EX!!! =p.

Significance of 21st Bdays?
Heya,
It's already almost Mid-June and how time flies. In less than 2mths, it's down to my turn for celebrating my 21st bday in Aug(but I'll be celebrating in end of July i suppose ). The thing is, i have not really given a REAL thought of anything about it till now, i.e WHERE will it be held, WHO will be invited, WHAT will we be eating or doing and HOW to go about doing it. 2 mths might seem like a long time away, but that's what i said to myself in Jan this year, (that it's still EARLY to think about it since my bday's in Aug) and here am i stuck at the same old question again.
Since Jan, I've attended quite a number of 21st birthday celebrations, chalets, bbq, clubs, restaurants etc. I've noticed that the one very common thing about such parties is, there is always a HUGE crowd of people involved. Well, it's pretty the norm for one to invite almost all of his/her friends to commemorate the significant event because you hope to share the joy with your circle of friends. Then again, I(as their friend) found it pretty much boring attending it whenever there is a big crowd involved. No doubt that the highlight isnt ME in the 1st place, but i find it pretty pointless to merely be physically there for the sake of it. I mean, if you've noticed, everyone there would be sub divided in their own groups and be in their own world throughout(most of the time feeling bored or killing mosquitoes), and it's also difficult for the bday person to entertain and talk to each and everyone there. So for people who have yet to celebrate your 21st, ask yourself this : Do you want to celebrate your 21st with a large group of friends who come for the sake of coming, or do you prefer just holding it small and yet celebrating it with close friends and make it worthwhile? =p
With regard to this, I hope i can avoid this awkward scenario and therefore only hope my 21st "party" would be celebrated with my family and close circle of friends. To think about it, of all the 21st parties I've attended, i thought Ivan's and -SC- combined 21st was pretty much the most successful and enjoyable party! Although I might say that the timing was kinda a little wrong ( held at sentosa on a weekday evening ) at first, the eventual turnout was just right and perfect! A small gathering with the close friends, making it not difficult to mingle around without feeling left out or bored, the "tekan" sessions and all the lame games we played. Oh boy! It was worthwhile! =)
Now now, as for mine, I hope to find a Nice Chill-Out place with Food and Booze, attended by a small circle of close friends and my family, that's all. Initially, i thought of holding it at ONE-Rochester, making reservations for a few tables at the cosy ambience there, but dad commented that it was inconvenient and far for people to go. So currently, i was thinking along Balcony Bar, but some said it's not very worthwhile. Arghghghgh. Anyone out there has any BRIGHT ideas? Feel Free to let me know if you have yeah.=)
p/s: Friends out there! IF it happens you're not invited for my 21st, it does not mean that you're not LOVED or APPRECIATED, but rather it's difficult for me to invite EVERY1 to the celebration. Thx for understanding! (Anyway you can save on bday present and your time also right. HAHA)

Childhood Dramas Quiz
While fighting the ZZZ monster and ultimate boredom from work, I've decided to blog something out of Guitar Topics again, and that is a mini "Childhood Dramas" quiz! Well, i was actually surfing on youtube.com and then stumbled upon the very old 80s/90s SBC TV drama series!!
Quiz: Check out the Videos below and see how many dramas can you IDENTIFY AND REMEMBER WATCHING....( Take note of the number of shows you can remember until the end of the quiz and you'll know what kinda of person are you! )
1. Good Morning, Sir (SBC Drama Theme Song)

ChildHood Shows
Heyoz,
Just todae while at work, i was also taking some time online to do some updates on my Blog(Eating Snake). It was then on MSN that one of my colleagues, -Xue-, commented that my blog was getting "boring" because it's all just about Guitar, Guitar and Guitar so far and it was uninteresting for her to read my blog subsequently. Lolz.Well, i guess it was a good suggestion brought up by her and thus this time, I've decided to post something on a different and lighter topic! Yesh! CHILDHOOD SHOWS. haha.
Well, if you guys out there are living in Singapore, you might have known that Mediacorp is actually offering ONLINE broadcasts of their past/present TV shows. By paying a yearly or 6mthly subscription fee, you could access to many shows which they have posted online (Damn i sound like i'm promoting and advertising for their service.lol). Ok cut the bullshit. I was actually fortunate enough to have Ivan, my buddy, to "offer" his userid to me for usage. Thus, i began watching back old Childhood shows manz....
Do you recall the following "OLD SCHOOL" shows?
+ Gosh! This is like my ALL-Time Favourite show when i was still schooling in Primary School! It's a Vampire-Themed drama starring Chew Chor Meng, Florence Tan, Pan LingLing and Huang Yiliang. It's somewhat similar to the HongKong Version of "I have a Date with the Vampire" though, but i still prefer the local one.

+ I would say this is by far one of the most HEARD OF and FAVOURITE drama for most people! It's the show which got everyone of us(kids) to get interested in Card games and i recalled that my friends and I were so crazy and obsessed that we were actually learning Card Tricks in school and at home, or even to the extent of Stapling the cards together so that you can do tt ZAI "shuffling" trick. Urmx, sounds familiar to any of you guys? Haha.

+ I think this is probably the ONLY tv drama shown that even teachers and parents are giving their support and consent for their children to watch it at night( at least for me). Well, this show basically portrays the Life in Singapore back in the 1940s, before and after the WW2 struck Singapore. Therefore, this show was deemed to be an entertaining and educational historical lesson to all the younger generations.

+ Another one of my Favourite shows starring the Fann Wong and Christopher Lee. I think it was this show that brought these 2 celebrities together right? HAHA, and yes, this show is definitely much better than the current China Version of "Return of Condor Heroes" shown on ChannelU now(although that "Xiao Long Nu" is much cuter).

+ My colleague, -Xue-, gave thumbs up for this show, but I could not even remember what this show was about. Was it about a group of people selling Tofu on the streets? Hahaha.
+ This show might not seem very familar to people my age, because it was filmed back in the late 80s( I think ) and everyone looked so young in that show. This caught my attention because it was a show depicting the NS life back in Singapore. Well, watching this show kinda brings back the good and bad times of my NS days and thus, i would say it's a SHOULD watch show for guys!
Well well, these shows aint the only Favourite ones and I'm still hoping that MediaCorp will post more OLDER shows online really soon. In my opinion, I would still prefer shows shown years back as compared to present shows. local dramas these days lack original content and ideas which can truly capture a person's attention, and that's probably why my family's switching to foreign dramas (Jap,Korean) instead.
The one thing i hated most is the modern effects used on drama scenes, i.e the new sound, computerised visual effects which make the outcome more "fake" and exaggerated. You might say I'm just being biased but all in all, I'm still the OLD-SCHOOL LOVER. Haha.
Hope this post does bring back some childhood memories in you. Chill.
